I was disappointed to find that the pages inside the hardcover were NOT the same thickness or quality one would expect to find in D&D books. It feels and looks like normal printer paper.

Also, the book binding broke literally the moment I opened the book. Very disappointed.

100% worth buying. von richten's guide to ravenloft is a cheap rewrite of this book. im disappointed that wotc didnt take more from this book. In my campaign, we are using this over von richten's guide to ravenloft. please write more about shadowfell, shar, raven queen, vecna i will buy anything you write on these subjects.

I put the quality of this book and its content on par with anything produced by WotC. If you want to know about the planes, developing horror content in your campaigns, planning an adventure to Shadowfell, or just to understand the context of the domains of Dread (e.g. Ravenloft), this book is the best and only resource you need. Kudos to the authors.

Looking forward to the additional books on Planes.

This is hands down one of my favorite resources I've ever purchased on the DM's Guild. It's just such a wonderfully detailed and well organised supplement, jam-packed full of inspiring background, fun character options, and so many potential adventures that it prompted me to steer my ongoing game into the Shadowfell.

This reads like one of the good old-fashioned supplements Wizards of the Coast used to put out when they weren't limited to two adventures and an Unearthed Arcana compendium each year. Well worth the price and then some!

I'm just gonna be straight-up honest. This book has the quality, heart, and soul of any official D&D book. This is a truly amazing supplement that I will be using (and maybe even expanding upon with homebrew PC Vampire rules I'm working on). If you liked Ulraunt's Guide to the Planes: Acheron, you will love this book as well! I cannot wait until this releases for Print-On-Demand.... BECAUSE I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A PHYSICAL COPY SO MUCH!

I have been collecting books about the various planes for years starting with the Planescape series in 2e D&D. I have always had an interest in the Plane of Shadows in particular. I have to say that Urlaunt's Guide to the Planes: The Shadowfell is the definitive work on the topic. It's stats and tables have been tailored to D&D 5e but the lore is so well done that you could use it in any rpg with some tailoring. So many sources have been brought together here making it a wonderful tool for the DM and simply a fantastic read for any player. The book builds the overall characteristics and feel of the Shadowfell into a world with great depth and texture. The inclusion of the Fugue Plane is a wonderful bonus in my mind. They fit it in quite nicely and gave it the same great treatment as the Shadowfell. Masterfully researched, compiled and written.

I simply can't say enough good things about this book. If it ever comes out in an actual book I will definately buy it. A must-own book.

The discovery of this book started a new trend in my campaigns: More direct involvement from the gods. Because I could now understand how they operate better, I was able to draw up my own rough system of rules that let me incorporate gods into the game, in all their majesty. It also helped me do away with the concept of infallible, omnipotent gods, instead leaving them as superpowerful beings who you can still, technically, beat up and steal their lunch money. I bought it quickly after I saw it and I'm a devout fan of the series now!

I ran a mini evil player adventure using this book as a guide and it's super informative and easy to craft your own. I really want this in a physical format.

I have to say that this book Rocks!!! I had always wanted to have a way to make the shadowfell invade the material realm and this book will allow me to do that. I had a little hiccup at first with the Raven Queen not being able to be provided but SHAR works even better than the Raven Queen. Her background fits perfectly for why she would want to come back to the material plane and the fact that the man in charge of the floating city makes a perfect way for the city to invade the material realm and start spreading the Shadowfell presence. I cant wait to read the rest of i and all it has in it to really put in the feel of an invading force. I cant wait to read any other books you have on other planes of existence.

So, I've running a gothic horror homebrew game, and the material in this is fantastic. The pdf is FULL of well made content, from crunch to fluff, from characters to setting. You could fairly easily use anything from this book to place into your adventure for a new hook, or a unique PC or NPC, but I'd be hard pressed not to refer to this as official if I were running Curse of Strahd; it'd bring an already near perfect module to new heights, and vastly expand your time and adventures in barovia or the other Dread Domains.

The races and archetypes are solid, flavorful, and mechanically sound, and its been a blast encorperating them into NPCs my party meets along their travels.

Again, I would highly reccomend this product, and will buy it again if it ever comes to print. It's worth every penny and more.

The adjective that springs to mind when I think about the incredible accomplishment that this book represents is "generous". From the moment you start digging in to the 5-course meal that is Ulruant's Guide to the Planes: The Shadowfell, you know something special is happening.

This supplement gives DMs and their erstwhile adventuring parties everything they may need to craft incredible stories together in everyone's favorite Plane of Despair.

DMs will love the new monsters, awesomely epic-tier villains, and cool new spells in this guide. But I think DMs will most love the detail that the team has poured into fleshing out the various (and widely varied) locales. Every location in this guide comes with a plentiful helping of tantalizing plot hooks, ready for the creative storyteller to weave into their sessions. I found the ruler of Gloomwrought, Prince Rolan and his fallen mistress compelling, but as a literature nerd I especially found myself drawn to Markovia in which a Frankenstein analog wreaks terror amongst his suffering subjects. Speaking of Dread Domains, the book includes no less than three massive cities within the Shadowfell, but also several Domains of Dread like Markovia which are prison-like demiplanes formed by the Dark Powers to host the very worst of the worst. These places come fully fleshed out with backstories as to their creation and those of the awful Darklords imprisoned within them. Adventuring through any one of these and discovering/resolving the evil within would make great campaign arcs, and this book includes five of them!

Players (yes, this book is for players and DMs!) will appreciate the numerous new character options in Part 4. The team has four new Races to choose from and every Class now has at least one new Subclass on offer that fits within the dark and dreary framework of the Shadowfell. Of particular interest in my mind were the Circle of Nightmares Druid and the Obeah Knight Fighter subclass. The former gets Nightmare dice (as if we needed a reason to throw more dice!) that can have some very real effects on an opponent's sleep patterns including lowering their Max HP or giving them waking nightmares. The Obeah Knight blends the martial prowess of the fighter and some component-based magic. I found myself thinking of The Witcher and how Geralt uses oils and other alchemical witchcraft to enhance his combat abilities.

Ulruant's Guide to the Planes: The Shadowfell is an impressive accomplishment. The original art looks terrific and adds to the feeling of the book, enhancing the writing as opposed to distracting from it. I will say that sometimes the formatting can feel a little cramped, but perhaps that is bound to happen when you compile a massive supplement spanning 260 dense pages. I'll take it as a side-effect of generosity.

I cannot wait for the print on demand book as I can definitely see continuing to use this guide for a long time!

Buy this book. :)

love this product. Art is great. Very fun and enjoyable monsters to both play as the DM and to fight against as a player. Haveing Statblocks for higher tiered monsters and even Deities is awesome. Love the additional lore as well. Can't wait to continue to run this content in my future campaigns.

An amazing book, with tons of content and ideas for your campaigns, espacially if you intent to send your players to the Shadowfell. I would highly recommend it to those that want to expand their resources and add a deep feeling of dread in their campaigns.
