I wish I would have done a bit of research before purchasing (I purchased The Adventure Crafter deck), I would have just bought this deck. Knowing what I know now, this deck is highly superior and does everything the other deck does. The graphic on looks nice, the cards are easy to read, the manual explain everything fairly well (except how to use the list cards). If you are good with making up your own interpretations, like yhe mystery of what will happen, buy this now as it will work with any system.

If you are good with interpretations but want an outline, try the other product from this publisher.

Amazing tool for solo play! Had a minor issue with my manual pdf and it was resolved immediately. I have really been enjoying mixing mythic with my 4ad campaign.

Excellent product quality on the printed set. There were some issues with the pdf download formatting, but the creator fixed that issue.

As far as using the deck with all the interrupt, altered scenes, chaos factor and learning to ask the right questions, just dive in. I cannot suggest anything else. Yes, you might spend all day trying to get that first encounter, figure out how to set it up and then actually fight or talk your way through it. I cannot help on the details because I've used the deck with three different systems to test it out.

Needless to say, a lot of the mechanics land on the system you are using. I can only suggest you have methods of generating simple encounters for the "level" of the character(s) you are soloing. I've worked it with AD&D 1st, BRP, Hero and a bit with Adventure Awaits (which is virtually a hack 'n' slash itself).

So, get it, try it. If need be try it several times until it starts clicking.

Perfect implementation of the Mythic GME system. I currently use the deck solo with Call of Cthulhu 7th Ed rules with the Arkham and Miskatonic University source books as a "logical" backdrop for on-the-fly stories. I also picked up the Keeper decks to quickly pull random NPCs, phobias, and monsters as needed. I can play a deep, low-footprint RPG game on the couch.

Oddly enough, the GME-generated stories with Arkham as a backdrop progress much like the Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective games, except they are entirely open-ended. The resulting stories and accumlation of clues and locations don't feel random at all. It's kind of creepy (which is great). I'd like to try LA and New Orleans source books next with the GME deck, but I'm currently preoccupied with a growing menace in Arkham.

Perhaps most importantly, the mechanics of the GME deck are fun in themselves. I have some super heavy board games and sometimes the intricate mechanics get tedious to run. With the GME deck, I'm getting intricate, complex stories with mechanics that practicallly run themselves. Every flip of the card is an exciting opportunity for the story to progress in unexpected, yet logical ways, especially when the chaos factor inevitably ramps up.

I don't go as far as journaling with the GME deck, though the scenes play out much like a good movie or book in my head. I use a notebook as a simple date and time calendar as well as investigator's clue book. I track plot points (threads), locations, NPCs, and clues in my notebook as the story develops. It's lightweight and fun.

One little nice-to-have I might suggest is for the publisher is to add a ten step random number generator to the cards similar to Fields of Fire (GMT). As many people will use the GME deck with existing RPG systems, they can dispense with all the various dice and use one or more cards with the random number generator off the deck. Need a D3? Use a card from the deck. Need a D20? Use two cards from the deck. D100? Ditto. Need a D500? You get the idea. It's so easy and compact.

Production: This is a good product. I'm satisfied with the card and print quality. It's POD quality for sure, but it does the job as others have said.

Content: I'm a fan of the Mythic system. I love my solo RPG and tabletop game play, so Mythic was a welcome addition when I picked it up years ago. But taking that system and putting it into a deck of cards made me love it even more. I've used the deck for solo RPG and boardgame play. My favorite way to use the deck these days is for RPG game prep. I'll use it to come up with NPC personalities and plot hooks. It's a wonderful tool for all of that.

I'm a big fan of the Mythic and Crafter line. I own every title. The Mythic Game Master Emulater Deck brings it all together. I'm not going to give a detailed review here. I'm going to say that if you have an interest in playing a pen and paper role-playing game solo or sansGM this complete line, especially these cards are, in my opinion, essential. This is such a high-quality useful and fun product.

The manual that comes with the cards is easy to understand was plenty of examples. As I said in one of my comments in the discussion, you may need the Mythic core to get the most out the GM Deck but it is not necessary. I think you should get the Mythic/Crafter pdfs because there's just such great reading and so many good ideas to tie into the use of these remarkable cards.

Happy gaming all.

These cards are a great tool for running a solo game. It increases both the speed and utility of the original emulator. Also the card quality is pretty standard for playing cards, the print quality exceeded my expectations. Overall very happy with this purchase.

I love this.

It's a great, easy to use system that helps give you prompts no matter the genre or type of RPG you're playing.

The system does a few things really well:

  • Answers yes/no questions
  • Gives you description/action prompts
  • Tells you if there's any twists in the upcoming scene
  • Manages the pacing of the story
  • The instruction manual is super well done, and includes a long demo of how it works

If you're on the fence, I definitely recommend getting it!

I purchased this product the very moment that I found out that it was available. (Disclaimer: I am on several boards and a mailing list from the author. While I am just a lurker I've been a long time fan of this system.) I wanted to wait to review the product until I had a chance to use it for a while.

Card based systems are a new thing for me, relatively speaking. I've been playing RPGs for decades though and even playing RPGs solitary for many years now. The Mythic:RPG system was my first successful foray into what I would consider free form solitary play. While I've used many oracles and some of my own design the Mythic:RPG system has been my goto for so long that it's like an old friend.

These cards are fantastic! They are a great adaption of the Mythic:RPG system into a card based structure. They also allow the system to run much faster and I find that this is one of the most important things for any RPG oracle. It needs to run the game, manage injecting randomness, but at the same time step into the background so that the game takes center stage. This is already something that I find Mythic:RPG to be great at, but using the cards just improves upon this quality to me.

An added tidbit of fun for me is that using the cards feels like a game unto itself. I don't dislike using tables, but they are sort of dry. Having cards that can be interacted with feels more fun and makes the whole thing more energetic to me. It also gives me a set line where the RPG system and its dice based mechanics are separate in my train of thought to the oracle.

All in all I highly recommend using these if you like Mythic:RPG, or solitary Oracle systems. If you are curious and want to try something like this out it would be great too. I hope that the author expands this to include other works, like the Location Crafter and the Creature Crafter.
