The 3rd in FGG's line of Hex Crawl Classics is 48 pages long, 1 page of front cover, 1 page editorial, 1 page SRD and 3 pages of ads, leaving 42 pages of content, so let's check this out, shall we?

This being an adventure review, the following contains SPOILERS, thus I encourage any potential players out there to skip ahead to the conclusion.

Still here? All right! Remember those creepy, black-clad guys with their black arks and undead slaves from HCC 2: The Winter Woods? Yeah, well, this is their homeland. And they are about the nicest guys your PCs will encounter in this wasteland that could have been ripped straight from the thanatosian pits of hell itself. The ethnicities of this land of desolation, where corrosive ochre rains fall and deadly, yet short-lived toadstool men sprout after the rainfalls, are necrophage, worshipers and embalmers and strange swamp-dwellers. Giant mosquitoes swarm over the forests, damned souls race on their chariots forever against one another and don't get me started about the other monstrosities that roam the land under the command of the 9 pretty deaths, almost godlike, deadly individuals with extremely lethal unique talents that rule as eternally feuding godkings over this land of the dead that has been stranded in this world. These beings will challenge the best of PCs, most of them clocking in at over CR 20 and making for truly worthy adversaries.

Conclusion: Editing and formatting are top-notch, I didn't notice any glitches. layout adheres to the 2-column b/w-standard and the b/w-artworks and map is nice. The pdf comes with bookmarks. The other HCCs were good. This one is EPIC. HCC3 oozes orphean flair and while reading you practically picture yourself rescuing Eurydice from this Hades-on-earth. The unique foes, the politics of the place, the bleak and deadly desolation - this is a land that even veterans of Kingmaker will find fun and challenging to explore - which is especially what I'd recommend this pdf for. The fact that it seamlessly ties in with its predecessors is another great bonus. Atmosphere, environments and foes are even more unique than in HCC 1 and 2 and I have nothing to complain about - John M. Stater delivers a stellar Hex Crawl that will be very hard to surpass. My final verdict for this excellent piece of adventure will be 5 stars and the Endzeitgeist seal of approval.

Endzeitgeist out.
