This is not an adventure. It is the first hour and a half of an adventure you have to buy in three seperate parts. None of those parts are any good. The plot is like a slice of swiss cheese; thin and full of holes. The encounter design is poor in some places and non-sensical in others. Avoid this entire trilogy.

EGCC 01-07 Sensations of Bliss (5e)

Another solid entry in the ongoing Esper Genesis plot line, this time focused on the technology rather than the pseudo-magic elements of the setting.

The adventure provides a good mix of combat, social interaction and role-play, and skill challenges. Character from all backgrounds are going to find something to do in this well balanced adventure.

This is a great adventure for a group of totally new players playing with a completely novice Dungeon Master. This advetnure guides the DM through five short, simple parts of a single story. This structure allows the GM to focus on just the part in front of them. Helpful prompts at critical moments fill in details that other adventures leave unsaid. The adventure starts simple and then gets very slightly more compliacted, showing the DM how to handle situations like grappling and skill checks with helpful sidebars right as the need arises. When its over the characters should have saved their towns local brewery and the players should have a firm grasp on the basic rules of the game.

The listed run time is rather long. If run in as intended, in an actual tavern where first time players are drinking large amounts of beer, the run time may be accurate. More traditional organized play venues are going to run this in a more traditional four hours or less. Experinced parties can likely finish in two hours.

The included extras include easy to print maps and pre-generated characters. THe maps helpfully come in both color and black and white, for those without color printers. The six pre-generated characters include notes about how their abilities work; critical for new players learning the game. Every convention organizer should probably copy these and add them to their library of pre-generated sheets on offer at the convention.

An organizes looking to an adventure to be run by first time volunteer Dungeon Master's would do well to start here.

Shiny Bits Vol. 1: The General's General Store (PDF)

A very solid "story starer" for a DM looking for help filling their campaign with interesting places. Presents a single, detailed location and its owner/operator full detailed and stated out. Provides just enough detail to be interesting, and leaves the pay off and underlying meaning to the DM. Introduce the General's General store to your campaign and provide your players and hour or so worth of interesting poking around and investigating.

CCC-SFBay-02-01 Old Enemies Arise
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild

Date Added: 01/03/2018 22:47:58

Old Enemies Arise touches on the history, politics, and culture of the Realms in a way that the 5e era has been sorely lacking. Long time players will appeciate the chance to participate in a classic rivalry, and new players will get a look into wider culture and conflicts that published 5e adventures have previously ignored.

The adventure itself is a good mix of investigation, role-playing, and combat. The characters will need to piece togther who is doing what to whom as they navigate a set of combat encounters that is significantly more challenging that typical adventure league faire. As the situation comes into focus, they will have decisions to make about who to support and who to oppose.

The author cares about the production values of the mod, and it shows. The maps are several grades about the usual AL maps. Clear, easy to read, and in color with both DM and player versions. A player handout provides a break down on the critical lore for the mod, and illustrations for the major NPCs are provided.

Old Enemies Arise is an entertaining mod, the will appeal to both combat munchkins and lore and story purists.
