I really like I.C.R.P.G.. The best part is that power costs hit points

This suppliment made all the difference!

While the CORE rules are great in many ways, they were a little lacking in flavour for spells. The difference between shooting a bow and casting a magic beam were mechanically the same (except different 'effort' dice, and 'tags'.), which left a lot of flavor up to the GM to describe. But ICRPG Magic fixed all that.

I was skeptical when I first browsed the pdf. I was worried the extra bulk of magic rules would take away from the simplicity that made ICRPG so great. But the rules were a breeze to play and added so much added flavour (and effects) to the game. Simple spell blasting and endless heals have now been replaced with crazy vampiric mists that suck life from enemies and heal your allies, or unnatural winds that blow your advisaries back down the corridor away from your group. Yet the rules are still lose enough for immproptu and narritive style that encoumpasses ICRPG.

I was also worried that characters must sacrifice (cost) Hit Points to cast spells. But some of the old-school players loved this, pointing out that in early editions of D&D, wizards had very few HPs....with ICRPG all characters start off with 10 HPs (a heart) but now with Magic costing HPs to use, it once again makes spell-casters generally low on HPs for most of the encounter. This was a brilliant design.

On top of all that, ICRPG Magic also has additonal monsters and adventures, making this a 'must purchase' for any magic-filled game of ICRPG.

This book is amazing! The author strives to bring new concepts to the table with each published work and this document is no different. With it you get rules for creating your own spells, rules for incorporating the spells from ICRPG CORE into this newer system, adventure seeds, figure flats for table top play, potion creation, rare ingredients, magical loot, improved character creation for casting classes, aquriing a wizard's tower, charts for failed casting attempts, magical monsters, magical loot, rollable character backgrounds, and a simple yet complex spell system that opens up the possiblity for unique and interesting spell combinations.

While you do need ICRPG CORE to get the most from this book, within it lurks enough information to run an entire campaign using only casters! It also makes you feel like a MAGE within the first few moments of character creation. I personally don't like Mages as a playable class but with ICRPG, I found myself immediatley immersed in the feeling of other-wordly power this book evoked in me as a player.

This is the age of improved RPG mechanics and as someone who has a habit of buying new systems to only have them sit on a shelf after yet another wall of unusable text, I can't emphasize enough the ease of this system. I have read every ICRPG book from cover to cover on more than one occassion and in single sitting. It is designed in such a way as to get you to the table playing while also providing a HUGE amount of content to make you both a better player and a better GM. These are the types of books you are always misplacing because they never have enough time to gain dust on your shelf.

Hank kills it again. Awesome new addition to the ICRPG lineup. This book has everything needed to integrate a fully formed mage into your RPG PC roster and provides a guiding hand to exploring Magic in your own games. Runehammer is masterful at giving just enough to spark the imagination and send it cascading through the infinite possibilities, and ICRPG Magic is another testatment to this mastery.

This book also includes input from other awesome folk in the RPG community: Kelsey Dionne, Curator at The Arcane Library; Thai artist Tithi Laudthong; and others. Looking forward to more from this legendary set.

Magic, as it should be, is a dark and terrible power full of great risk and great reward. This book provides a stellar method of ways to harness such myserious energies, whether for the ICRPG gaming system as intended or to add some excitement to a system such as 5e. Highly recommended.

I'll keep it short and sweet. This is ICRPG at its best: a treasure trove of ideas to kick-start your DIY RPG shennanigans. This time Hank has laser focused on magic and has created a system that could genuinely support an all-mage party. Pretty much everything that is great about ICRPG is here.

  • Like the idea of milestones? This has a kind of "magic milestones" for mastery schools of magic.
  • Like the class building flexibilty? You can make a mage that focuses hard on one or two schools or magic or mix and match how you like.
  • Like all the stream-lined flavor without the massive, constricting lore dumps? There is tons of mage backgrounds, destinies, and kinds to give your mage a unique spin.

I love ICRPG, but I will be the first to point out that certain parts of it are too thin for my tastes. Magic was the main culprit. The system brought to life here more than satisfies my preference for mechanics and lore. I definitely recommend you give this a go if you are interested in magic or if you want some interesting and streamlined spell mechanics to inject into your gaming system of choice.

Magic in ICRPG is dark, unfair and terribly dangerous. MAGIC presents the world's extention into the unnatural. Organised into 12 schools of magic and presented with spells representing 4 different levels of mastery, you will have your character being able to rip the blood from their enemies using BLOOD Magic, twist the minds of Orcs using MIND magic or pull a Meteor from the sky to decimate an entire City using MATTER Magic.

As you use MAGIC your character will be corrupted by it, twisting and mutating into the abnormal. Eventually drawing the attention of one of the most powerful entities presented in this book. Just be sure you do not misfortune a visit from Vorlac, the giant insect-like reaper, whose charge is to return souls back to the Hell Dimension.

If you already use ICRPG then this is a no-brainer purchase. But even if you use another system, or homebrew a mash of different systems, the ideas presented in MAGIC will inspire, excite and terrify you in unequal measures. The DIY heartbeat of ICRPG still beats strong in this title with the writing musing you to dream, create and hack away.

A fantastic addition tho the ICRPG set of books. I am super excited to include these new mechanics into my gameplay. The flavor that oozes from this book will breath new life into any game. The new Dimensions as well as the rules on creating a wizard's tower have my mind whirling on a plethora of new plot hooks and adventure seeds. I could not recommend This book, or Hank's other ICRPG books (Core and Worlds) enough.

ICRPG's latest expansion, MAGIC, is brimming with awesome stuff for all those of the arcane inclination. It contains everything players and DMs need to bring magic, even divine magic, to the next level in their games. It brings modular depth, and that's the best kind.

This next step in the ICRPG line is a deep dive into the exploration of wizardry. Complete with additional material to really beef up your magic users; from spell creation, to magic items, to potions, to mage towers and strongholds, and even other dimensions and the entities found there.

This is a big step with fresh ideas you can plug right into your ICRPG games. Complete with print and play minis and spell effects. I see this as a great boon to collectors and folks that just want to have an adventure with their friends and roll some dice. I definitely recommend grabbing yourself a copy.
