World Wide Wrestling: Second Edition
by Davide Q. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 07/19/2023 09:06:34

A very good game. Had a lot of fun. It improves in every major way from the first edition. The essays at the end of the book had been really useful. I totally recommend it.

A really fun game, a very well written PBTA. I would have liked more attention to the life outside of the ring.

My group loves this game and so do I. This has been our go-to game every Monday since July 2020 with no signs of slowing! You can play it rules-heavy or rules-light and still get just as much enjoyment out of it.

The World Wide Wrestling Roleplaying Game: The Road
by James M. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 10/11/2019 13:31:00

"The only real things in the wrestling business are the money and the miles."

Much of the life of a pro wrestler is making the towns night after night, year after year, pretending to be someone you're not. What's the toll to body and soul of living the gimmick for 300+ days a year? This suppliment helps you explore this question.

The Road is an essential (and free!) add-on for an excellent RPG that adds new layers of psychological complexity and pathos between bouts of arranged athletics. If your game draws more from the gritty realism of Mickey Rourke in The Wrester (2008) than the all-kayfabe self-promotion of Verge Gagne in The Wrestler (1974), this is for you. It adds mechanics, story prompts, and stock NPCs related to issues of addiction, recovery, travel, social media, fans, partying, family strife, and more - it's all here. Not only do these rules add psychological depth to the PCs, but their effects carry over into the ring, offer new ways of generating Momentum, Heat, Injury, etc.

Your World Wide Wrestling campaign won’t feel complete without it, brother.

The only negative, and this is a major one – the artwork is absolutely TERRIBLE. (The WWWRPG basic book has similarly awful “move” inside art.) I dare you to describe exactly what is being depicted on that cover.

I get it – it’s a free PDF supplement for an indie game. But surely another artist could've been up to the task.

Masks of the Mummy Kings
by William J. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 11/02/2018 09:14:39

Masks of the Mummy Kings is a hot summer day game. It's beautiful and elegant, great for pick-up-and-play. The designer gives you the "magician's trick" to constructing challenges and obstacles on the fly, so this is a low/no prep game. Every bit of the game feeds back into the core activity: get in that dang tomb and rob it!

The character sheets, oh my lord, they are amazing. Each tomb-raider is represented by two halves of different masks, set in front of the player. I love this game and I love recommending this game to people.

The production is prestine, and this has one of the best covers, period.

Annalise Final Edition
by Lars L. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/02/2018 03:03:57

It is a hobby of mine to read (and sometimes play ;-) indie-RPGs, especially low-prep ones.

Although I do not like vampire themes, I really do enjoy the overall concept where you focus on one secret and one vulnerability of the PC, instead on their physical attributes to hunt and slay the vampire. BTW the vampire is more a kind of background threat for the PCs to get in conflict with their secret and vulnerability and can be substituted with other monsters to a certain extend.

What I really enjoyed was the usage of "Claims". That ist that you can claim things that other players narrated (an NPC, "the light of the moon" or "swallowing shadows") and reincorporate it when it come to a "moment" where the success or failure of a situation is decided. Which is a very interesting mechanism by itself.

I found the beginning short story a good read. For the main text I would prefered some more subheadings in the text and additional elements to create more space. Maybe even a larger font.

Nevertheless it is a great game. If you like gothic horror or narrative, PC-focused games like Hill Folk you will certainly enjoy this one.

The World Wide Wrestling Roleplaying Game
by Derek P. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 01/01/2018 12:43:22

This game delievers everything that it promises. Throwing yourself into the melodrama, conflict, and backflipping action of pro-wrestling is a great palate cleanser for when your group starts to get bogged down. If you've got some real fans at your table, this game can easily support a campaign that will keep everyone engaged.

The World Wide Wrestling Roleplaying Game
by Clark R. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 01/25/2017 05:58:39

This is a fantastic piece of work, evocative of the world of professional wrestling. I appreciate how it keeps all of the players involved, and everyone gets a chance to shine. I wasn't familiar with the Apocalypse World Engine before WWW, but if this is an example of how the engine can be applied, I like how the underlying mechanisms move the game forward smoothly without interfering with the actual roleplaying. Nice job!

Masks of the Mummy Kings
by Jason P. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 01/08/2017 12:29:49

Masks of the Mummy Kings is a light-weight, elegant game about dungeon-crawling scoundrels. The scoundrels are delving deep into the ziggurat to claim their treasures, but need to contest with obstacles. Each room proposes a threat which is vulnterable to physical harm, arcane arts, or clever trickery. The players experiment and discover how to deal with each obstacle, based on their character's expertise. I have often stepped away from dungeon crawls of late, but this game has gotten me looking for torches and oil flasks. I certainly recommend checking this out.

1 for Presentation

Make sure you look at the Preview because that's exactly how the entire game book looks - all 76 1/2 sized pages of it.

So have fun going blind trying to read it. I'm not going to waste either my time or my eyesight.

Thematic. Moody. It reinforces the feeling of a good vampire story, based on the secrets and fears of those victimized by the beast. This game is beautiful to behold and the game mechanics are engaging. This is an indie game design worth your attention.

The Dance and the Dawn
by Jason C. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 06/24/2010 15:20:15

The Dance and the Dawn combines two of my favorite things in gaming: roleplaying and chess. By using chess pieces to simulate the movements of an eerie, magical dance, the game uses miniatures in a new way, not to simulate tactical movement, but instead to create a narrative structure.

The premise of the game is that three women (this is a game for three players and a narrator) have come to a mysterious ball in order to court and be courted by several suitors. There are some pairings that will end happily - the woman's desires match the man's ambitions and vice versa. There are others that are just mismatched. There is one suitor who is soulless and the fate of his woman, if any pick him, is horrible.

The group creates the details and tone of the dance together at the beginning - character creation is as simple as completing a few sentences...and then writing a couplet of poetry! By altering the details from being comforting and warm to being terrifying and harsh, the tone of the game can shift from romance to horror. The narrator also has several tools which can address this tone - the Queen of the dance will decide who gains her favor or not by the use of secret criteria, which might include how cruelly the women treat each other or how cleverly they interact with their suitors. The Duke can compel characters to duel and the ladies then reveal who they support in the duel.

The game is well-stocked with examples and the illustrations of the board and proper means for movement are very well done. The game is on square paper, so can be adapted for on-screen use relatively easily (though it does have a lot of blank marginal space.)

The game does have bookmarks, and includes character sheets, a chessboard and paper chesspieces if you are a plebian fool who owns no chess set of your own.

All in all, this is a phenomenal game and well worth not just a look, but a playthrough or two.

The Dance and the Dawn
by Samuel K. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 10/22/2009 19:24:53

I'm always facinated with games that combine classic games like chess with other games. Dance and Dawn stood out. The concept may seem simple but has a lot of potential. I could see this being used as an addition to any RPG to create romantic and political situations among any world. I like the fact that the players can choose to tell the truth or bend it to leave each other in doubt if they have picked the right companion. I've even worked with a die roll system to influnce their choice. I don't want to give to much away. They give the feel that it's a one shot in the closing statements, but to me if played right it can be used again and again. It does not have skill rolls and advanement but the role play potential is really there. Hint: If you can't come up with a concept for your secret desire grab a deck of Tarot cards.

LIKED: The layout is beautiful
