The Buildings of Direhold City: Southside Place
by James L. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 10/03/2021 01:17:20

Direhold City is quite frankly HUGE. It is an unparalleled resource that you won't find ANYWHERE else. It has been executed in the most desireable 'semi-realistic' style of RPG maps (comparable to Forgotten Adventures, Tom Cartos and Caeora). It's a MESS of tiles and assets, and a rather unique resource! After careful analysis, here is what I have discovered: The main assets that you are purchasing in Direhold City are the multi-layered PDF files. Each PDF file can produce hundreds of variations, with the ability to deselect room decorations, doors, walls, roof(s), buildings, shadows, even roads and the base layer. Each PDF file is more or less an anthropomorphic Geomorphic Tile. So, forget about the .jpg files for now. The author provides the standard roof, no roof, no furniture, no building no grid images and etc., but you can create dozens of variables yourself.

The Empty Street Tile (and Crossroad) 'Set' provided with each Square, N, W, E and S City Set is merely a subset of the Street Set. I don't count them or their derivative images as original Direhold City tiles since you can reproduce them with the full sets. Crossroads is Cross04 from the Streets Set. A thoughtful addition by the author, but don't count them as seperate 'tiles'.

The blurb for Streets claims that it has over 400 .jpg images. It actually contains 856, including grid / no grid versions!! The Complete Set actually contains an extra 60 or so images that I can't account for, and I haven't nailed down what they are exactly. Probably a handful of no furniture or no shadow images that didn't end up in the smaller sets, or some such nonsense.

The Trading Post is in Streets AND South. North contains 2 .pdf files for the Townhouse, one for each floor.

Final totals are:
Set Name.|.Tiles.|.JPGs
Squares...|....4....|..15
North........|...5.....|..15
West........|....4....|..15
East.........|....4....|..15
South.......|....4....|..15
Streets.....|..29....|.856
..and the Complete Set does indeed include every (relevant) resource from all of the other sets. :)

Other minor issues most people won't care about include:

  • in Streets, DireholdCity_VTT_No_Grid_T_Junction_Down01_C01 – Copy is a copy of..
  • Cross04 VTT under the Complete Set and Free Crossroads is 14.2 MB. I suspect that it is 300PPI, the copy in Streets is 1.2 MB, probably 140PPI
  • the VTT .pdf files in West are between 9-11 MB.. I suspect they are actually 300PPI
