Sci-fi Map Tiles 2

Create your own science fiction virtual tabletop adventure maps with the second set of Sci-Fi Map Tiles from Studio WyldFurr! This pack of art assets expands on the success of the first Sci-Fi Map Tiles package with an all-new texture set. This package of art assets gives you the ability to create science-fiction battle maps that will bring an adventure to life!

What is a Map Tile?

A map tile is an art asset that depicts an area of terrain, such as a patch of grass, a concrete floor, or a street sidewalk. Each map tile is created as a part of a themed pack of map tiles, together the art assets can be assembled on a digital map canvas to build a virtual tabletop adventure map. Map tiles from Studio WyldFurr consist of photographic source material combined with hand-drawn artwork, with each map tile rendered to a scale of three on-screen pixels per real-world inch. Thus each map tile is designed for use with a 180-pixel map grid square.

Art Assets - Raw Image Files Edition

This edition of the Sci-fi Map Tiles II pack is designed for use by Game Masters who love building their adventure maps and want access to a toolbox of ready-made artistic material rather than the hassle of designing their material from scratch. The map tiles within this package were designed to act as a library of art assets that a Game Master could simply just drag-n-drop onto a digital canvas to build a map.

The package contains a wealth of raw image files in JPG, PNG, and WEBP file formats. These image files form the building blocks which you can assemble into the form of a dungeon, fortress, monster lair, or whatever kind of fantasy adventure map structure you desire. Simply start with a blank digital canvas inside the graphics editing program of your choice (for example, Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint, Affinity Photo, or Gimp). Then start composing the form of an adventure location by grabbing a map tile from the library, then plonk it onto the canvas right where you want it to go. Keep placing down map tiles - block by block -until you have completed building the map. Once completed export the adventure map as a single JPG or WEBP image that can then be imported into the virtual tabletop App of your choice (for example, Fantasy Grounds, FoundryVTT, Roll20, or D20Pro).

We have a range of tutorials and Livestream videos on the Studio WyldFurr Youtube Channel that can walk you through creating your adventure maps with Map Tiles from Studio WyldFurr.

Hey, got a question for you.

I'm putting together a map that's the surface level of some alien ruins. I'm trying to get an effect like you've got in the last example set you put together above where a spiral staircase goes down into into the ground. Did you produce that "descending into darkness" effect with a paint program, or is it somehow doable with the stairs themselves? Or was that something you did with Fantasy Grounds?

The faded effect I made in Photoshop. I have been wondering about making some overlay faded gradients for people to use to reproduce the effect in Fantasy Grounds and FoundryVTT.

As it turned out I was able to do something approximately like it in Maptool by using the draw tool and playing with transparency, but thanks for the answer.

I have had some issues working with the spiral staircase sections from that set on the VTT; even with snap-to-grid off there's some limits to rotation ability so some of them are hard to make work. Oddly enough, its not as much an issue with the ones from the prior set.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
