100 Secret and Hidden Doors and Passages to Find in a Dungeon

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Secret doors, hidden passages and hard to find compartments are a staple of dungeon design, as well as for other buildings and constructions. This supplement has 100 such for characters to find. They range from the well concealed that have hidden or unusual triggers, to the more normal that are simply not visible without searching. Whether or not the hidden areas lead to passages to other parts that can be traversed, or whether they simply reveal secret compartments, is up to the GameMaster.

This PDF supports Adobe layers and the page backgrounds and images can be disabled to make printing easier.

Here are some sample results:

  • Inside the mouth of a large statue of a dragon is a small catch that, when triggered, causes part of the seated rear of the dragon to open, revealing steps that lead down.
  • Iron torch sconces are fixed to the walls. If one of them is twisted in the correct manner, a door on the opposite wall opens. If it is twisted the wrong way, a poison needle will strike the creature turning it.
  • Lava pools in a depression in the floor. When a mechanism is activated, stone slabs rise up out of the lava, providing a walkway across it, protected from heat. The final slab has a trapdoor in its centre that opens revealing a ladder.
  • Logs have been stacked in a pile and investigation shows all the logs are joined together. The entire pile can be moved, revealing a trapdoor.
  • Manure heaps stand in various places in the room. If one of them is moved, a trapdoor is found beneath it.

One page is the front cover, one the front matter, half a page is empty and one is ads.

The supplement is also available in a version for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. You do not need both versions.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
