Cepheus Engine Mission Generator

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The galaxy’s a big place; big enough for any and all kinds of adventure. But where do star-spanning heroes find such exploits? Right here in the Cepheus Engine Mission Generator! Using little more than 2 six-sided dice and a modicum of imagination, the Referee of a Cepheus Engine or Original Science Fiction Roleplaying Game campaign can generate one of over 90,000 different missions in mere minutes. And the process is generic enough that it’s usable for any other science fiction game system, or even other genres, if the Referee tweaks the results right.

The Cepheus Engine Mission Generator. Big adventures for a big galaxy.

not bad for 2 pages for less than a dollar USD. I am confused.

"If more randomness is desired, throw 1D6 and throw on the indicated column." Columns are 1-3 -24 5-6
Was this supposed to be 1-2 3-4 5-6, or 1 2-4 5-6?

or some other situation I cannot fathom? Normally rolling a D-6 you refer to a chart, but this I can say is a unique encounter in over 40 years of gaming.

Essentially this is a text based situation generator. simple three rolls on a table for a very rough story concept.

Verb Objective, Target person complication...

Job: "Meet" a "Merchant" Complication: disease.

So:
your agent is sick, so difficult to get them to the meet,
or the target is sick,
or the area to meet in is full of disease.

It is basically an idea dart board, throw some d6 at it, come up with your own story "CONCEPT"

Not bad for less than a buck.

Thanks for the catch. The columns were supposed to read "1-2, 3-4, 5-6." The file has been corrected.

This is an intriguing supplement but I have to admit that I find it hard to understand how in just two pages you can have a good quality mission generator. Could someone tell us more about it?

Thanks for asking. It's conceived as bare-bones, much like the Original Science Fiction Roleplaying Game was meant to be, as in the Referee is given just enough information to spark ideas of his/her own and leave enough room to let him or her flesh things out as necessary according to the unique universe. By using a string of keywords (heavy on science fiction concepts) rather than a complete setup, the Referee can craft any sort of adventure, rather than feel constrained to using what has been presented by the generator. For example, rather than coming up with complete paragraphs or sentences (that may or may not make sense), the Referee fills in his/her own blanks, which may easily include universe-specific material.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
