Super-Powered Fate

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The supplement nobody asked for--ANOTHER super-power system for Fate players everywhere.

Get the gang together! No new rules to learn (well, maybe a couple but they're basic). No long lists of power mods to paralyze you with indecision. Describe your superhero concept, get buy-in from the group, write them up in minutes building on
Fate Rule #1: Aspects are always true, and start playing.

Super-Powered Fate is a compact (23 page) guide to the free-form description of superhuman powers with Aspects, Skills, and Stunts, written for Fate Condensed and compatable with Fate Core.

It includes:

  • A discussion of character-creation choices balancing Aspects, Skills, Refresh, and Stunts for superhero campaigns.
  • An examination of Setting Rules (Power Scale, Collateral Consequences, etc.) especially appropriate to supers games.
  • Step-by-step instructions for using Character Aspects as Power Aspects, choosing Skills (or creating new Power Skills), and fleshing out powers with Stunts.
  • A review of the original Fate Skill List, with suggestions on how each Skill may work with a superhuman power.
  • A collection of Stunts especially useful for super-powered play, with guidelines for creating more Power Stunts.
  • 10 superhero archtypes as templates for building Power Aspects, Skills, and Stunts.
  • 4 Fully worked sample characters, used as character-construction examples throughout.
  • The art of Travis Hanson (because he's awesome).

NOTE: THE POWER ASPECT SYSTEM DESCRIBED IN SPF IS ADAPTED FROM
WEARING THE CAPE: THE ROLEPLAYING GAME. IF YOU ALREADY HAVE THAT, YOU DON'T NEED THIS . . . UNLESS YOU'RE A COMPLETEST LIKE ME.

Is this material open licensed? I'd like to be able make a self-contained game using Condensed Fate with a powers system, but Venture City doesn't quite do it, and Daring Comics kept its power system closed, so I'd love to have a powers system I can actually use.

No worries, let me know how it works for you. You can get faster response to questions by dropping them at wearingthecape@gmail.com. And reviews, or course, are always welcome.

I wanted to leave a review, but now that I'm a DriveThru publisher apparently that's not allowed.
So I'll just put it here. Unlike Venture City, in which the characters are all on the same plane, this set of superrules leans heavily on Fate's Scale, which lets your players build a team with Superman standing next to Batman.
I liked Wearing the Cape very much, but this striped down version of the rules deviates less from the Condensed Rules than Wearing did from Core. The next result is a lower learning curve, and greater flexibility.

Thank you! I've heard from multiple people who say they're blocked from dropping reviews for different reasons, and having only one "official" review does suck (especially since reviews are the main feedback venue post-publication), so it's good to hear from a satisfied player in the Comments.

Only a couple of typos located. For an English Paper that's like an A+, right? LOL
- P.6, under Power Aspects and Permission, para 1: “precognative sniper” --- “precognitive sniper” ?
- P. 17 under Speedster, para 1: “speedster somewhere nearinstantaneously,” --- "speedster near instantaneously," unless it's just an in-line play on the topic.

You have stuff in this on using it with Condensed that is not in Wearing the Cape right?

It's tied to the Fate Core/Fate Condensed Skill List, and the Stunts and Power Rating stuff is Fate Condensed, but if you have WtC:RPG you really don't need this, you can just extrapolate over.

There are a few typos giving it a rushed feeling. If you need I can track down and give specifics.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
