I've tried downloading and opening the v4 version, and it's still crashing and showing a blank page at around page 30 when I open it on my ipad.

I am having the same issue on my Mac. There seems to be a problem with Page 30. I tried opening v4 in the Preview app on a MacBook running Catalina.

Hello Genevieve and Matt,

We just uploaded a new PDF (v9) that I believe should solve your issue. Thank you so much for your patience and please let us know if you encounter any more problems!

A bit on what happened: None of the contributors encountered this issue on their systems, so it took us a bit to source a machine (an ipad) where we could replicate the problem. Once we replicated it, we identified one of our spreads as causing the crash and revised the export to clean it up. The new PDF works on my test system that was crashing with the old PDF (v4), so hopefully it will work on yours.

Hope you enjoy!

Just starting to dig into the PDF, but I can tell you right now that the Dungeon Without Words should be made available in a poster form.

Perhaps as an addon for physical copies of Dissident Whispers issue 2!

I'm also having an issue with the PDF. It looks like page 30 won't load and it's eating up all my CPU. I'm opening it on a Mac in the Preview app (that I use for all my PDFs). I had to force quit that app. I'm running Catalina.

It depends on where I start reading. It manages to show about 32 pages, then get chocked up and refuses ro render any more. But when restarting the app, and starting om page 32, it renders just fine – and continues to do so about 30 more pages before choking up again.

I use Apple hardware: iPad Pro and the latest MacBook Air, all fully updated. My viewer of choice is PDF Expert.

I'm having a problem viewing the PDF in Good Reader on an iPad Pro. About 14 pages in the pages won't load and the app freezes. Same thing happens with the default iPad PDF viewer. I've never experienced this with any other PDFs, including ones with larger file sizes (or any other Tuesday Knight Games releases), so this is new to me. On a more positive note, I like what I've seen so far. =)

DTRPG curiously doesn't list a page count for this product. Can anyone advise? With 58 two-page adventures I assume it's somewhere in the ballpark of 116 pages?

FYI pages 14 and 15 of the PDF (11 & 12 of the book) are displaying with a broken background that makes the text really hard to read.

Heya (Kat here)
So you get a PDF but not from DriveThruRPG - from the publisher directly.

Unfortunately, for those of us in the UK, that's not a good option. The tremendous amount for shipping anything from the US is wasted money I could donate to the cause this supports. I hope they will put the print on demand version on Drivethru where I will happily get this.

Heya there's a POD version thats being shipped to the UK & EU for about £25. There is a known issue that the PDF sent is not fantastic quality but we're getting it sorted asap. https://whispercollective.org/

Yeah...£25 shipping is ridiculous. I'll happily purchase this once it's up for POD on Drivethru or Lulu and has a printer in Europe.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
