Al-Kalim Adversaries

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The sands of Al-Kalim are home to some of the most dangerous creatures in all of Mennara. While in service to the Grand Caliph, Tarik Al Farabi has traveled all over the world in his quest. In this tome, he describes (12) different native creatures dangerous to any who might visit his beloved homeland.

Dangerous elemental beings, giant worms, the ancient Djinn and more stalk the deserts of Al-Kalim, and even an innocent-looking patch of sand can be deadly. Join Tarik as he describes each of these dangers, and brings the desert to life for you!

This supplement provides twelve (12) new Al-Kalim adversaries. Each creature is pictured, along with stats and other information, including power levels from the Expanded Players' Guide in addition to a new, optional mechanic for encountering creatures during the day or at night. This is but one installment of other regional Mennaran bestiaries planned to follow (the first being Zanagan Zoology: Part 1).

While these creatures are in addition to those listed in the Realms of Terrinoth book, they do draw from lore that appeared in previous games set in the Terrinoth setting. Additional information about Al-Kalim is also provided.

As a bonus, Terrinoth-themed Adversary Cards (designed by Roy Altman (RPG Narco) are included for each creature in the product!

Developed by veteran GM and self-described Terrinoth researcher Chris Markham, this is the eighth of many released and planned supplements for the Realms of Terrinoth setting. Though this supplement is set in the world of Mennara, it can be converted for use in your own fantasy world. The Genesys Core Rulebook, Realms of Terrinoth setting, and either Genesys Dice or the Genesys Dice App are required to use this product.

Question about these cards, just picked up the whole bundle of critters you put out. I am still learning the system, so I may have just missed this somewhere. I noticed the creatures in your bundle have 2 values for Soak, Wounds, and Strain, one in a tan column and one in a blue column. Why is that? Never seen creatures with 2 values for each stat.

It's an optional rule mechanic given in the title. In the Runebound game which featured Al-Kalim, the creatures had different values based on if you were fighting them during the day or the night, so for folks who enjoyed it in that game, I also converted the concept for use in Genesys (mostly for those really trying to capture the feel of an Al-Kalim campaign). Great question!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
