Monsters of Murka Campaign Setting (5e)

ADD TO WISHLIST >
Selected Option:

Monsters of Murka is the first entry in the Murka trilogy that also includes: Restaurants & Retail, and Chromatic Gamut. You can find the full library of our products on our website!

The Land of the Free, and the Home of the Brave.

Or, maybe just the home of bad puns and silly satire.

The all-too-familiar world of Murka sprawls out before you, calling upon you, adventurer. Will you rise to the occasion to save what's most important in life (and I'm obviously talking about the economy, here)?

The Monsters of Murka Campaign Setting is an immersive playable parody of United States pop culture designed for fifth edition, filled with recognizable references, bad jokes, and meme-worthy monsters.

You can expect to encounter freedom dragons, redcapped trumplins, and oil elementals while wandering the lands of Murka. On the northwestern shores of Murka, you can visit the rainy city of Sea-Addled, home of the Warlocks of the Shore, who hold the secrets of the old gods. They are responsible for bringing to light each iteration of the ancient holy texts, the most recent of which being the fifth (and trust us, you do not want to ask them about the fourth iteration). Alternatively, you may want to visit Holly Woods, and mingle with celebrities galore, or The Diplomizer himself! But keep an eye out for the Church of Mythatology—they're more powerful than meets the eye. Or, if you'd prefer, you can set your sites on the capital city of Murka: Washtown, home of both Killary and The Don: powerful political pundits who will stop at nothing to rule Murka and its people as they see fit. Where will you make your home? Which leader's right to rule will you fight to uphold?

This 214-page campaign setting includes:

15 new playable subclasses, which include the Brobarian, the Lone Ranger, the Affluenza Sorcerer, the Action Hero Fighter, and the Illuminated Artificer.

• New backgrounds, feats, and race options
28 new monsters, including The Don, Killary, freedom dragons, draguns, and more
Over 80 new spells, weapons, and magic items, including new rules for firearms and explosives
Detailed location descriptions for Sea-Addled, Holly Woods, and Washtown
Written history about how Murka came to be
• A pantheon full of 23 familiar deities
Stale memes

This setting book may be a satire of a familiar world, intended to make you laugh, but the opportunities for real adventure you can embark on are limitless. We encourage you to make self-insert OCs like the cringelords you are! Finally get revenge on your school bully by transforming them into a terrible monstrosity, no true polymorph necessary! And when your character finally makes the most of your hometown-turned-playable-scenario, you can take on the impossible challenge of building an imaginary world where your parents are proud of you and it's super easy to drag yourself out of bed in the morning (no? just me? huh. fair enough)!

Monsters of Murka is designed for you to grapple with the challenges of the modern day in a setting that you control, which we feel can be silly just as easily as it can be serious. We believe that satire can be a powerful tool when used appropriately—therapeutic, even. We encourage you to use this book to serve that purpose. Or, use this campaign setting to educate others! Use this campaign setting to try out a new identity in a safe and familiar environment! The things you can do with this book are limited only by your imagination.

We need adventure modules, a compendium of magic items, and stats for elemental vehicles. There's a lot of low hanging fruit that you aren't going after.
Along with Hydra Cooperative's Weird Adventures and Dimension Twenty's Fantasy High, you guys really inspired my entire campaign about a kid's birthday wish transforming the world into a D&D version of itself. I'd like to say thanks by buying more stuff from you.

In the Equipment Chapter on page 118, there's a picture of what looks like a drawing tablet, but there's no accompanying magic item. The picture in question is on the far left of the page. I'd be really interested in a DnD drawing tablet magic item, but it seems to have been left out, or else I'm missing that it's another item entirely. (It might be the map of Flat Urth, but that does specifically say that it's a scroll...)
I've gone through the magic items section about 5 times and can't find it, if someone could point it out, or even just a comment of, "Whoops, we had art but no item to go with it," the help would be very much appreciated! In love with this setting, trying to talk my friend group into letting me DM it for them!

Put in the pre-order for the Core Setting and "Restaurants & Retail" (both Hardcover) early February of last year. The ETA was May 2021. May rolls around, I'd set aside funds for 3 months, but I get an update video. "Great!" Well, it's three guys chilling on a couch, chuckling like it's Beevis & Butthead, except the punchline was "We've got your money and nothing pertinent to share." It's since been an entire year of emails about the project, repeatedly cluttering my inbox and reminding me that "this is the project that never ends, and we have nothing to show, my friends". Thankfully I was still able to cancel my order, but I'm sorry for anyone who backed through a site that doesn't allow for that.

Now that that's off my chest, I'm sure you're all very sweet and intelligent people, but the light-hearted and casual updates felt unprofessional at first and were insulting as time went on. After almost a full year, I could really use some hard data, some...See more

Hey Bryan,

We are getting REALLY close now, and you can go visit the R&R kickstarter for more specific updates, but basically we have 1 more mountain to climb before we start cruisin through molehills to the end. We don't have a specific date yet but we are getting very, VERY close.

I'd love to leave a review for this product, but I ordered it in September of last year...and still havn't received it. I hadn't thought about it in a while and chalked it up to the virus slowing everything down. But it's been almost a year sooooo

Any plans for an OSR version? I like the look of this kind of gonzo setting.

We'd love to expand as much as possible, unfortunately none of us really have any OSR experience :/ which makes an official OSR version feel a little undoable to us.

However, the world as a whole isn't tied TOO STRONGLY to anything that is inherently 5e, with a little homebrew here and some editting there, making an OSR accessible version of this for your hometable shouldn't be too much extra work on a particularly motivated DM.

If you're looking for ideas on how to do that specifically, you may consider jumping into our Discord https://discord.gg/9BMNQHub

Cars are such an important aspect of American culture. Are there any plans to address them in the setting? Perhaps with some form of Eberron-esque elemental vehicles or something? A lot of campaign possibilities come to mind; Top Gun with airships, Knight Rider, Fast & Furious, Batmobile. Heck, you could even make a monster of giant golems that trans, uh, transmogrify into vehicles.

There are definitely plans to include Car/Helicopter/Plane culture in a future expansion, and there's a tasty morsel of that in the Upcoming big expansion Restaurants and Retail.

I love the idea of...uh....Transmogrifiers...being a particularly devout cult of Baye or something similar...

Would you be looking thy o parody Japan's politics like they did with America, or their incredibly varied pop culture, or some combination of the two?

Well, latter more than former. Giant pilotable golems are a definite necessary part. And a race that parodies the Saiyans so we can blast them away with Magic Missile.

...my high school was full of DBZ fans, I prefered Scooby-Doo. It was a rough childhood.

Another issue. Under the Illuminated Artifice Minds, Karver's 7th feature is already granted by the base mind ability, namely casting plant growth a number of times equal to int modifier per short rest.
Artificers are baseline proficient with firearms as per optional DM blurb, so Kolt's baseline mind ability is a bit redundant.

Good eyes!

The gonne should have a 1-shot magazine.

We'll be cleaning this up and releasing an updated version in the near future, but for now I'd suggest the following changes:
- Karver's base mind ability should allow castings a number of times equal to your int modifier per LONG rest, so at 7th level you can cast that spell a number of times equal to your Int Mod per SHORT rest.
- Kolt's Base Mind ability allows you to crit on a roll of a 19 or 20 when wielding a one-handed or 2-handed firearm, chosen each time you channel that particular mind.

Maybe I'm just being dense but what's a "gonne"? Is it just a bfg? I could be overthinking it but I feel as though it's a reference to something that I'm just not getting.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
