There are powers even greater than magic . . .

In the misty recesses of time, before the kingdoms and lands you know—before the elder elves, the dwarven ancestral lords, and even the dragons—civilizations undreamt of rose and fell. They built citadels of metal, glass, and light. They crafted wonders and harnessed energies we can only guess at. The remnants of their incredible creations now lay hidden away in the deepest recesses of the world. Those few learned folk who even know about them have a name for these places, objects, and even creatures. They call them the . . .

Since the very early days of tabletop RPGs, gamers have experimented with mixing a bit of science fiction into their fantasy. From Empire of the Petal Throne to Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, early adventurers into the realm of RPGs saw the amazing promise that mysterious and weird science-fantasy elements could add to their fantasy campaigns.

Nowadays, who knows science-fantasy better than Monte Cook Games?

Arcana of the Ancients brings the wonders of mysterious technology and weird science-fantasy elements to your fantasy campaigns. Designed by fantasy masters Monte Cook, Bruce R. Cordell, and Sean K. Reynolds, this gorgeously illustrated sourcebook gives you everything you need to add a whole new element to your Fifth Edition game.

The adventure is weighted for five, third level characters (that detail is hidden away just under the Adventure Synopsis on page 8 of Arcana of the Ancients). I have run two gaming groups through this adventure and both started with many weeks of travel, and two short side adventures on the way, to the Caracara Fair, ensuring that the had reached 3rd level by the time they arrived.

Looks like you added the coupon to my MCG Store account without telling me. It's bad enough that I have to use a vendor specific store (instead of getting my copies here), and that your coupons expire ... but to not even tell me that the coupons are there ticking away and that I can download my content is pretty egregious. What kind of publisher doesn't tell you that you have time-expiring coupons waiting for you for content you paid for? Certainly not an honest one.

Hi, John. We don't normally conduct customer service via DriveThru comments, but since you chose to bring the issue up here rather than through the usual channels (the large "Contact Us" button at the top of our website, which we direct you to in pretty much every communication, or, failing that, a direct message through Kickstarter), I'll post your answer here.

You were emailed directly about fulfillment of Arcana of the Ancients on March 13th, 2020. And again about Beneath the Monolith on June 5th.

We posted a Kickstarter update letting you know that fulfillment of Arcana of the Ancients was coming soon on February 25th, and then another following up to remind you that it had taken place on April 14th. A similar update regarding Beneath the Monolith fulfillment was sent out on June 5th.

Every one of those communications included an explanation of our fulfillment process. It's also explained on the Kickstarter page itself, and in other Kickstarter updates, most...See more

I bought the hard copy of this last week, and I have mixed feelings about it. It has some nice material, but a great deal of it seems ported almost directly from Numenera. I wasn't a fan of that line, so I had hoped this wouldn't echo so many of those terms (and the only direct hint in the above product description is one mention of "cyphers"). The book itself is solidly made and the art is overall great. OTOH, the layout seems to have h u g e areas of empty space and really wide margins, making me feel like they stretched the material to fill 300+ pages. I'm also not a fan of some of the layout and colors; they reminded me of 4e d&D products in appearance.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
