The Rise of Quick-Clank McCrank

Product Type: Adventure/Scenario
System: D&D 5e (OGL)
Level range: for levels 3, 4, or 5.
Author(s): Alex Clippinger & Phil Beckwith

The Rise of Quick-Clank McCrank is a Wild West-themed fantasy adventure set within the town of Westhallow, a small far-flung farmstead settlement on the edge of civilization. You should be able to drop this adventure into any campaign setting, published or otherwise. This adventure contains a balanced mix of the three pillars of RPG play: Social Interaction, Exploration, and Combat. The aim for this first adventure is to allow the players to explore and discover Westhallow, and act as the introductory adventure for a yee-hawin’, knee-slappin’, Wild West setting.

The Plot:

Bellis Rustgear is a rock gnome inventor who lives with her twin sons in the town of Westhallow, a quiet and remote assemblage of farmsteads and businesses barely populous enough to be called a village. The creative gnome has invented a series of weapons she calls ‘leadspitter pistols,’ an invention she believes will one day take the world by storm. To help showcase her creation to ‘taller folks,’ she created a clockwork humanoid with a quirky personality.

One night the clockwork invention malfunctioned, taking its fictitious personality to the extreme. Naming itself Quick-Clank McCrank, the construct stole Bellis’s leadspitters and gear. Creating new clockwork humanoids that share its bizarre mannerisms and armed with Bellis’s weapons, Quick-Clank has taken control of Westhallow and forced the residents to roleplay its vision of a strange society where people use words like ‘howdy’ and ‘yeehaw.’

Now Quick-Clank is ready to inflict some new and dangerous oddity onto the good people of Westhallow; an event that will take its rootin’-tootin’ vision to the extreme!

Things to expect:

  • Clock-work Cowboys
  • Pistol Stand-offs
  • Gun-slinging
  • Hoedowns
  • Rodeos
  • Yee-Haw's
  • Tons of fun
  • Lots of laughs
  • A color changing wagon?! (No need to paint it, right?)

The Series:

Wranglers of Westhallow is a lightly humored Wild West-themed adventure series designed for the 5th Edition (OGL) rule-set. It is jam packed full of pop culture references, parody, thematic and often hilarious situations, and super interesting and colorful characters that will stick with you for life.

The Rise of Quick-Clank McCrank is designed to be an introductory adventure, by which follow-up adventures are intended to be run as direct sequels. These additional adventures are playable in any order. The Rise of QuickClank McCrank is the ground-zero event that acts as the origin and center of a spoke wheel of adventures that follow. We call this the Westhallow Wagon-wheel Approach.

Folks, this is a western-themed adventure that is lighthearted, clever, and fun. OK? Don't try to make it something it's not and you'll be in good shape. The characters are inventive and original, but they also hit all the right notes with the trope [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
