Hi! I am supposed to be playing in a game using this supplement, and I had some questions regarding grappling.

1. Is the intention that hitting successfully with Brawl (Grappling) weapons (like the default Takedown or Choke Submission) from a neutral position automatically initiate a grapple, or does it take a completely separate action to initiate a grapple (the opposed check to mentioned in the Grappling section)?

2. Is the standard difficulty of a Brawl (Grappling) unarmed weapon Average like standard Brawl combat checks or opposed by the target's Brawl (Grappling)?

My table is confused about things a bit.

Thanks so much for supporting Ready....Fight! I hope your table has a great time!

You are correct in both cases, if you're using a grappling weapon, it functions exactly as any other melee or unarmed weapon. No need for any additional complexity. So, for clarity:

1.) Yes, the grapple is automatically initiated.

2.) Yes, use the standard melee/unarmed difficulty.

Hi! Love your products.

I have a questions, I hope you can answer them.

Is the Damage for Striking based on Agility or Brawn? It didn’t seem that clear to me. I could see either way. Your advisories seem to have it set up for Brawn. I just want to make sure I have it right.

I was wondering also why the signature weapons are so costly. Does it make that big of a difference when you actually get it to warrant that cost?

lastly, when preforming a feint, can you take Setup multiple times for multiple successes?

I hope these questions are fine!

Thanks a bunch!

Thanks for the support, Peter! Let me see if I can help you with your questions!

1.) Yes. Damage for striking is still predicated on the Brawn statistic, not Agility (even though you roll for striking with Agility). One of the design goals with Ready Fight was to encourage more diverse PC builds instead of getting everyone to just dump as much into Brawn as they could while ignoring everything else. But moving unarmed damage away from brawn felt like a step too far (though there are talents like Lucky Strike you can use to get damage from elsewhere!)

2.) Internally, we felt that 15 XP to add the Superior weapon quality to any weapon once per encounter for a Story Point was maybe slightly expensive, but that it more or less balanced out once someone added a few more upgrades where both the once per encounter and story point limitation felt appropriate. Signature weapons are more of an investment than instant gratification.

3.) No. If you get 3 success on a feint check,...See more

Just as a quick addendum. Obviously, at your table you can use this stuff and modify it to suit your needs however you think works best for your table! The above rulings are just based on what my intentions were. If you want feint to be more powerful? Let your GM rework how the bonuses are allotted. Maybe adding a boost or two boosts for a successful check, and an extra boost for every net double success works better for your table. Or maybe something else entirely. Ready...Fight! Like most genesys products that aren't adventures or settings, is more of a starting point rather than a finishing point.

Would love to hear more about your Ready...Fight! adventures and campaigns!

I have been trying to find a Pro Wrestling pen and paper for years (even going so far as to make my own...to no success), and this book finally delivers! I hope for more in this line from Keith and High Metric.

The PDF file has been updated with a gorgeous new map for Rumble City, we replaced two pieces of interior art, and made a number of minor text changes, largely correcting typos and tweaking the language of references to the dice results table where you can injure your hand punching. The update can of course be downloaded for free!

I might be biased because I play-tested this, but I think it's fantastic and plan to use it in my own games and reference it in my content. Great job, Keith!

My number one thing in gaming is having fun ... and this was FUN! I really think he hit it out of park with the simplifying the concept of a grapple to make it "feel" Genesys.

Kudos Keith and well done, sir!

I picked this book up, as it sounded like a neat idea to add to future campaigns. I got more than my moneys worth for sure. This is a well put together product, but a seasoned professional. It's more than "just a book for martial arts". New talents, new skills, settings based on tropes, and a professional lay out. I'm glad that I bought it, and look forward to starting a new campaign based on the 1970's Marvel Comic, Shang Chi master of kung fu!!

Combining the Rumble City and Kung-Fu settings should make for a great Shaing Chi game! Thanks for the comment!

Great book, very well assembled. For me it addresses a gap in the system that started with Star Wars and that I felt was in Genesys also, that fighting without a weapon "brawling" was just not worth while. These rules change that. I can not wait to integrate these skills/talents into my games!

Picked this up and gave it a good solid read through before I decided to leave my comments here. But I must say that this for me sets the standard for what a Genesys Foundry product should be.

The rules are well written, and as a bonus come pre-parceled out so as a GM you take take the parts you need that will fit each setting best, and leave the rest out for the next campaign.

The document also appears to be very well-balanced and you can see that it has been play-tested and out through the it’s paces.

I can not recommend this product enough for every single GM out there running Genesys. I can guarantee you there is something in here for every campaign. Even those that don’t focus on hand to hand combat there is something in here of use.

High praise! Making the supplement something that GMs could easily borrow from or use as a basis for an entire campaign was definitely part of the design goals for Ready....Fight! Glad you noticed!

Being as this is one of the first third-party titles to be made available for Genesys, it sets the bar pretty high. Ready...Fight adds a lot of depth to your Genesys games in a fantastic, modular way. Do you want to run a Tekken style tournament, so be it! What about street samurai and cybernetic ninjas? Add this to Shadows of the Beanstalk and go to town. What about your own pro wrestling campaign, complete with interviews, training montages, scheming managers, and in-ring interference? YOU KNOW THIS IS POSSIBLE!

Even if you arent interested in a hand to hand combat based campaign, there are rules here to add it to your existing world and make brawlers, wrestlers, and martial artists with skills, talents, and archetypes so they stand out in any setting.

Well written and invaluable to anyone who likes to add a little bit of fisticuffs to their game, I'd recommend it to everyone.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
