Fateforge - Spellcaster's Guide

ADD TO WISHLIST >

"Fateforge, Epic tales in the world of Eana for 5th Edition. A love letter to Sword & Sorcery and the world's greatest RPG, from the team behind Shadows of Esteren, the most awarded French RPG."

The Spellcaster’s Guide is the companion of the Player’s Guide. It details magic in the world of Eana.

  • Schools of magic. Not all forms of magic can be practiced freely. Some schools, in particular the mind-bending enchantment school, are often illegal.

  • Geomagic. Eana’s magic is changeable, manifesting through effects that affect entire areas and alter the abilities of spellcasters. In the Spellcaster’s Guide, you will find five of the sixteen geomagics presented in Grimoire. Each one is associated with a particular atmosphere through a modular icon, making these phenomena an active part of the story you want to tell.
  • Corruption. Canker is one of the greatest enemies adventurers will have to fight. It grows and thrives in the Netherworld, and spreads to Eana through varied means and avenues. Contact with the fluids of Cankerous creatures or the use of corrupt spells can result in corruption, leading to the slow decay of the victim’s body and mind, though with the benefit of dreadful powers, including unique feats. The complete effects and related rules are covered in Grimoire, which details the fearsome, unnatural boons and drawbacks resulting from permanent corruption.

  • Spell Compendium. Discover a new way to use the spell compendium through the modular system, which lets you fine-tune the inner workings of magic in accordance with what would be suited to your campaign, or even to a particular one of its locations or scenarios. This section provides a list of several spells, which include exclusive options and are all beautifully presented in the manner of illuminated medieval manuscripts.

  • Appendices. The Spellcaster’s Guide’s appendices include: a glossary of the key notions and concepts of supernatural elements in the world of Eana; a panorama of the various rules available throughout Adventurers and Grimoire, sorted by atmosphere (gritty, dark fantasy, mystery, etc.); and a catalog of common potions.

I love the ideas involved with Geomagic - potentially having a region with so much magic that even non-spellcasters have cantrips or the various region types with less magic or even none at all - can give players a unique challenge. I'm running Fort Ardraco this week and can't wait to try Fateforge stuff out. Someone even showed interest in having corruption, so I'm excited to see how that plays out.

The good thing with Fateforge is that several parts of its content can be easily integrated into any D&D 5e campaign, including existing ones. For example, as shown in this sample, geomagic allows to define zones where magic is less/more powerful that usual, whereas the concept of corruption could be used to add a notion of risk/reward when characters use magic.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
