May contain spoilers

A few comments, questions and suggestions. All of these are a matter of taste, nothing that contradicts the rules or makes the adventure unplayable, and are only meant to stimulate the imagination of those running the adventure, and bring feedback to the author of the adventure.

- I found the initial bandit attack to be a bit superfluous. It seems to serve two purposes: (1) show that Maghiel also went this way, and (2) that Maghiel is ruthless. I don't think the knowledge of Maghiel's whereabout would change the mission or route for any group travelling towards the city, and one of the scenes in the Academy already portraits Maghiel as ruthless. As such, the space dedicated to the bandit scene could perhaps been used better. The attack provided a great roleplay opportunity though!

- Traversing the Academy. I am a huge fan of rolling with whatever the players come up with so I was happy to see such an open ended approach in a published adventure. I also...See more

Jakob,

Thanks so much for the feedback! In response to your questions and points:

-The bandit encounter, while it does achieve the ends you describe regarding Maghiel, is included precisely for the roleplay opportunity. The primary driver for that scene is to show a bit more of the world and the people in it.

-With regard to traversing the academy, parties that lack a magic user of any sort should feel out of their depth a bit. I would imagine that magic would be terrifying and somewhat overwhelming to those who are not familiar with it, especially if it spins out of control. Having said that, the GM can always have Dain (or another NPC) help with navigation through hints or direct actions, if the players get stuck.

-The text addresses what happens if the party does something like warn Tsendur of his impending death: nothing. The meeting occurs in the past, as does Tsendur's death. Tsendur knowing of impending doom does nothing to prevent it. This could be explained...See more

Travis got here before I could and said everything I would have said! The only extra thing I'd recommend is that you should think of the 'time travel' sequences more as 'interactive visions.'

They don't affect the timeline in any way, effectively existing in a bubble, and they're interactive solely to avoid the DM having to monologue :).

I feel the adventure could benefit from including some of your points a bit more strongly, but I will leave it to any future GM running this adventure and reading this discussion.

Based on your advice, I will leave the Academy rewards a bit more open ended. A full plate is already a significant survival bump for a level 2 character, so that offer will still stand. I will include an offer from Savila saying something like "if you come upon any obstacle in your quest where you think the Academy can provide any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me".

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
