So, just a question, but how does Athletic Basic work? I know, sounds dumb, but after seeing some people's characters around and in the villain's guide, I don't get it. It gives a character +1 in STR&DEX&CON, but that should be it? Or does it give more with each rank taken?

It is just a one time bonus when you take the skill. Your Ranks modify athletic attempts like climbing, swimming, jumping, etc.

I see. Thanks. I think I know what I read wrong in the villain's guide community characters then.

Question: Am I blind or is there no level progression for Anthropomorphs? Or are they supposed to take a human class?

Besides that, this is probably the game I never knew I needed in my life :)

You're not blind. Due to a typo, there is a missing sentence. Yes, Anthropomorphs choose one of the non-MegaHuman classes. Sorry for the confusion.

Hey guys, in page 23 in the origins table:

You were a super athlete in high school. You were
recruited to a crime fighting organization or criminal
organization. (+2 to Athletics at +2)

what does the (+2 to Athletics at +2) mean?, or is it a typo and should be just (+2 to Athletics)?

More than likely +2 to Athletics. I know these guys worked hard on these games at hours after working hard at regular jobs all day. I can understand why little mistakes like that could happen.

OK. Best compliment I can give this game is this:

I bought all the PDFs of the 4 books AND the printed softcovers from someplace else (DTRPG I would have bought the PODs here but you don't carry them)

On to my question:

How do I make a character that has super powers from super-devices? ie. A villain that gains Ice Powers from a suit like Mr Freeze?

Using a Powered Suit or Gagdeteer would work fine, or try taking an item or a gadget and attaching mutant or mystic powers to it, giving the wielder the wanted benefit. It will take some personal tweaking to get the item the way you and the player will want it, but it should work out fine with a little reworking. Thanks.

Reading Vigilante City and liking it so far...
Wanted to point out a typo on page 20. While 'Emanate' is spelled correctly, I believe you meant to use 'Imminent' instead.

I just ordered this book the only way available at your store, as a bundle of books 1 and 2. No sign or promise of a PDF, which would have been useful even though I prefer hard copy. I'm not heartbroken, but you could definitely be more clear about whether the bundle comes with a PDF or two since its sister product, a bundle of books 3 and 4, explicitly comes with PDF and hardcopy versions.

Great game, and as always great art from Runehammer. But lots of typos and some unclear rules (Death Save/0 HP for example).

How about a preview that actually previews something of what the rules are like? Out of 9 pages, we get 2 pages of Kickstarter credits (in a *preview*? really?) a credits pages, and a dedication page. There's a foreword describing what inspired the game, but the product blurb already did that -- I don't need another two pages telling me basically the same thing. And do you really think anybody who's going to see the preview doesn't know what an RPG is, or how to read dice notations? That leaves just the table of contents -- 1 page out of 9 that tells me anything actually useful about the rules.

I see this sort of thing all the time on DTRPG, and I'm so, so sick of it. Here's a PSA for all game publishers or would-be publishers: the purpose of a preview is to market your game. If it doesn't do that, it makes you look either lazy or incompetent. In this case, the availability of a free sneak preview makes up for it somewhat, but it still requires the potential buyer to a) notice that there *is*...See more

Great feedback, Matt.

Due to this Item being the "Deal of the Day" I can't do anything to edit the preview until tomorrow. However, once it's editable, I will expand the preview.

If you'd like to wait until you can see more, hit me up on any social media for Bloat Games and I'll get you a discount code to get you the PDF for the same cost as the deal of the day cost.

Here, instead of being rude to the publishers, why don’t you check out some reviews on YouTube. Here’s one of many.

I appreciate you taking my criticism to heart instead of getting defensive. And I appreciate the generous offer, but I think I'll pass. I already checked out the other preview and concluded that it's probably not my cup of tea. Not really an OSR guy (I do like DP&D, though), so I was mainly interested in how it compared to the other d20 supers games I've collected, and whether it'd convert smoothly to 5e.

(The reason I posted anyway is because I make a point of saying something anytime I see a preview like this, in the hopes that other publishers will see it and think twice before making the same mistake. And some publishers in the past *have* replaced their previews with better ones after I commented.)

I never suspected you did. You're obviously a fan, though, so let *me* be clear: I didn't mean it personally. Like I said before, I do this *every* time I see a preview that doesn't preview anything worthwhile, which is far too often -- three times in the past week, for instance. I've seen it so often that I've made it my personal mission to call attention to the problem by pointing it out every time I see it.

If I knew how to say "Your preview is worthless" politely, I would. But I'm afraid tact has never been my strong suit. (It's a personal failing, I admit.) And if being rude is the only way to get publishers to think twice before making more worthless previews, then rude I'll be. I'm trying to do them a favor. From his comments above, Mr. Bloat apparently understands that, even if you don't.

And that's all I have to say about the matter. You may continue to rail against me if you like, but don't expect any further response.

It's actually still in the process of being completed (a little past the halfway point). For the Kickstarter backers it will be added to the early access account as soon as it's complete. For everyone else it's on our calendar for an early June release, but may be released early depending on how long the proofing process takes for the physical book.

I preordered the print books and Eric bloat was cool enough to hook me up with an early copy of the pdf. That being said, I’ve had a chance to read the rules more than a few times.

This game is awesome. If you are in to the deep dark gritty comic books from back in the day, this is most definitely for you. If you’re a fan of the old Palladium Heroes Unlimited, but find that just a bit too crunchy, this game is for you. I have an “ode to the 80’s” comic book campaign I’ve been wanting to run for a while. I was going to use Heroes Unlimited until I got Vigilante City. Now I’m going to use VC along with some material found in Dark Places & Demogorgons.

Vigilante City is an OSR game. The system is fast, fun and simple. Everyone can be up and playing a session with new characters in probably 30 minutes to an hour at most. It would serve well in both a campaign or a one shot. The art is top notch and really fits the feel of the genre. The rules read fast and are very easy...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
