Seafoot Games - Dwarven Lava Mine | 20x30 Battlemap

Dwarven Lava Mine

Hot magma laps at the edge of rocky walkways, forming rivers through this mining settlement. Rare ore can be found here, and the lava streams are used to fuel great, ancient furnaces where the most skilled dwarven craftsmen created items of wonder and awe.

Adventure Seeds

  • An exterior lava mine used to connect to ancient furnaces in a very prosperous dwarven city, where the world’s most fantastical items were made by skilled dwarven craftsmen. But after a tragedy struck, both were  left abandoned—and the dry, hot air has served well to preserve the items left behind.

A descendant of those who once lived in the area—a young, dwarven entrepreneur—has paid you to inspect the entrance mine for signs of danger; both to figure out why the once-glorious network of settlements were abandoned, but also to see if they can be reinstated.

But once you arrive—working your way through traps designed to either keep something out—or something else in—you discover ancient, stone golems. An experiment gone horribly wrong, the golems were animated using the souls of fallen dwarves—dwarves whose minds couldn’t handle the transition, and were driven insane…
  • A dwarven child has run into the abandoned section of the mine, to escape her step-father. Her mother has paid your party to find and return her daughter—but when you find her, she is with group of religious extremists preparing to take her to their stronghold in another city. The child is actually a teenager, and claims her stepfather abused her and that her mother doesn’t have the spine to do anything about it—and so she has found her own way out, by joining the religion.

But the daughter joined the religion too hastily, and—scared—has now changed her mind. She didn’t know, until it was too late, how violent their members were—killing and  burning those who disagree with their beliefs—and now they refuse to let her leave. They would kill her first for betraying their cause.

She doesn’t want to go back to her family, but now—with a face bruised from the backhanded blows of their leader—regrets her choice to join the religion, too.
  • A dwarven master smith has sent your party to obtain a rare ore with the promise that he’ll use some to craft you a  reward of your choice (within reason). The ore is located within a mine  that was hastily abandoned due to lava filling the excavation-pits,  after a team of dwarves accidentally pierced a magma chamber. But when  you arrive, something long, and serpentine seems to be alive within the  lava…

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
