Shadowrun: No Future (A Cyberpunk Sourcebook)

SCREAM YOUR TRUTH

The voices will be heard. The powers of the Sixth World want to control everything, keeping the world pacified through bland entertainment and milquetoast messages.

But they can’t keep everyone quiet. People have ideas screaming to get out and the tools to record and spread them. Whether they’re starting a new band, recording guerrilla trid dramas, or launching a pirate tridcast where someone tells the truth for once, they can grab audiences by the throat and get them to listen.

They’re out of patience, and everyone else is out of time. No Future is the Shadowrun guide to Sixth World culture, including information on music acts, trid movies and series, media sources, and sports, with a look at some of the voices bubbling up from the underground and demanding attention. With detailed setting information and relevant rules, No Future adds new elements and depth to Sixth World role-playing.

No Future is a cyberPUNK sourcebook that details the culture and everyday life of the Shadowrun setting and is useful for whatever version of Shadowrun you play!

Jason, is this book system agnostic or does that tagline about "useful for whatever version of Shadowrun you play!" mean it is for SR1-5 and Anarchy?

The rules are for SR5, but the rules section is small--the vast majority of the book is universe information that is system agnostic.

Is cyberPUNK a separate thing from the RPG Cyberpunk? I'm assuming that's a genre?

Cyberpunk is a genre, yes. The RPG Cyberpunk is based on that genre. Most folks trace the traditional origin of the cyberpunk genre to William Gibson's 1984 novel "Neuromancer," while the Cyberpunk RPG came out in 1988. Shadowrun itself debuted in 1989.

Kevin, thank you for such a quick reply. I assumed that was correct, but the capitalization of the last four letters threw me off. Cheers!

I took it as shorthand for "Cyberpunk, emphasis on the PUNK part."

No, it means the print book is $50 and the pdf $25. Several publishers advertise the price that way so that you think you're getting a discount. I don't like it, but DTRPG doesn't seem to mind the practice.

Ah, okay. Yeah that is pretty confusing because usually DTRPG has the printed book price listed separately. Thanks for the reply!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
