Crossroads Carnival: One Night Only Edition

Dust storms came suddenly and hit hard. You couldn’t see more than three feet in front of you. The chaos created enough static electricity to power cities. Blue flames licked off of barbed wire. People dragged chains behind them to help offset the electricity and touching someone could give enough of a shock to knock full grown men off their feet.

The phrase “if it rains” became permanently etched on the lips of farmers.
It was the end of times.

It was a good time to be in the entertainment business.

Beneath the midway lights of the Crossroads Carnival, you and your fellow performers are drawn into an aged battle between light and dark. You wander from one desperate town to the next, struggling to keep your humanity and save the souls of the rubes. But the cost is high, and personal deals with the darkness itself may be the only way to save others.

Crossroads Carnival is a tabletop roleplaying game that makes use of the same rules-light engine as Apocalypse WorldMonsterhearts, and Bluebeard’s Bride to create stories of outcast souls similar to Penny DreadfulThe Night Circus, and Carnivale.

3-5 players | 3-4 hour sessions | Rating 18+ | Powered By the Apocalypse |

The One Night Only version presented here is an aschan preview edition; it has everything you need to try Crossroads Carnival and learn a bit about being a sideshow performer in 1930's America.

GenCon2019 event player - The DM did a fantastic job to run the event but the characters of the story really were what most stood out to me, each with their own ways of forcing introspection and separation of game and reality. After a dozen amazing (mostly RPG) events at the convention this weekend, this event remains in the forefront of my mind above all others.

Oh this looks /interesting/. This is super charged and neat and gritty and dark in the most interesting ways.

Going to toy around with this a bit and see. Early question, is there a reason that the poison kiss for the Charmer procs off of Breath (her poor stat) rather than Bones (which, well, poisoning someone is absolutely a violent direct act, and her good stat). A minor bit, but still, looks fascinating so far.

Hey Artifice!

Glad to hear you're interested.

I'll pass your comment on to the designer. The game is still in progress, so that's a good note to look at. I'll post if she has an answer.

Hi Artifice!

According to Kate, it should be Bones instead of Breath. We missed that from an earlier draft. Good catch!

Oh, glad that I could be of help! Just caught it briefly and was confused. EIther way, this game is great and I'm actually planning a one shot for this Halloween, I'll be sure to let the Charmer skin know about the change.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
