Do you play Dungeons & Dragons?

Do you enjoy Heavy Metal?

Then today is the most important day of your life, because this book was made for you.

Vanquish your foes with the sheer power of roaring decibels and rock-guitars. As the Disciple of Metal, you’ll play a warrior Bard who raises the dead with screaming guitar riffs and wields your instrument as a weapon. As the Brutalmancer, melting your face and ripping out your own, still-beating heart will seem a small price to pay when your magic makes a smoldering mosh-pit out of the planes.

Perhaps you are even a master of dungeons. Within this tome of terrors you shall find plenty of Heavy Metal magic items with which to sever the jaws of your player characters. As you unleash upon them an all-new bestiary of foes both fantastical and futuristic, your players shall know the privilege of perishing against a cybernetic demon, the Mountain King, or the world-ending Jugulator.

All this and more awaits you, reader. Behold the Book of Metal. Go forth and die.

A Heavy Metal Pathfinder Roleplaying Game supplement for players and GMs.

How Pathfinder-specific is this? Is it useful with other systems?

Hey Jeff,

From a Fluff perspective, not very. All the Gods of Metal, classes, monsters and magic items have a brief amount of wacky fluff that doesn't depend on a specific setting. There's an introductory section that discusses the "Age of Metal" and makes veiled references to events in the official Pathfinder campaign setting, but it's really usable anywhere.

From a mechanics/system perspective, it's pretty Pathfinder-specific. Everything is written with Pathfinder rules, and even certain nitty-gritty mechanics (such as swift and immediate actions) are used. I could see somebody converting the content to D&D 3.5 with only a reasonable amount of effort. Actually, each Prestige Class has a ~2 paragraph section at the end where it discusses, specifically, how well the class can be converted back to 3.5 and what steps or considerations the DM needs to reflect on when doing this. Some of the classes convert back to 3.5 almost perfectly; some of them don't convert back at all...See more

Swift and immediate actions are from 3.5, btw. Psionics was probably the biggest thing to first use swift and immediate action in 3.5...

You're absolutely right. I remember 3.5 psionics! And swift actions sort of existed even before they called them swift actions, in the form of Quicken Feat. Mentioning Combat Maneuver Bonus/Defense would've been a better example of nuanced mechanics specific to Pathfinder.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
