SUPERS & SORCERY

Comic Book Fantasy

Welcome to Beacon, a glowing metropolis sitting on an ancient alien world surrounded by portals from across the multiverse! Coming to you from Daylight Publications, our debut setting offers you high fantasy adventure with comic-book level action and excitement. From an all new class to original subclasses, new races to a new Origins system, and above all the new setting of Beacon and the planet of Ghaistala - Supers & Sorcery comes from a simple question: how would you do costumed vigilantes in a medieval setting?

WRITERS
Day ~ Beverly ~ Bickford ~ Dawes ~ Lewis ~ Lowry ~ Merritt ~ Pankotai ~ Simpson ~ Van Hoy

ARTISTS
Bergo ~ Braga ~ Cardenas ~ Coggon ~ Crafton ~ explodingcrayon ~ Damkjær ~ DenniiStar ~ Enling ~ Frasheski ~ Gregersen ~ Hà ~ Perci ~ Puerta ~ Sanders ~ Rodjak ~ Roselysium ~ Van Hoy ~ Verma ~ Washington ~ Wong ~ Zi ~ Hines ~ Logos

The populace of Beacon has a propensity for power. Waves of energy known as arkwaves ripple through the cosmos every twenty years, instilling strange abilities seemingly at random. But beyond that, the people themselves often strive for greatness through engineering and physical prowess. Beacon is a shining city on a hill but with a seedy underbelly. The Portaleers safeguard the city, but even they can't be everywhere at once. And sometimes even heroes fall.

Will you take up the heroes' call? Will you stand against injustice and criminality? Will you root out corruption and throw down tyranny? Will you fight the monsters threatening at the door and bring down the villains with powers to match your own? All this and more awaits for you in Supers & Sorcery!

Hello! I got the book and I love it, I can't wait to use it in a game. I just wanted to say that I'm a bit surprised that there were no stat blocks for the Portaleers and that the Mantles were not included in the Magic Items chapter. I would like to add these to my campaign.

Hey Isaac,

I am so so sorry that I ONLY just saw this comment now, sometimes DriveThru updates me, sometimes it doesn't. So, that was a concious design choice from us, as we wanted to leave it open to players and GMs to build them as they wanted, rather than saying "Okay, the Mantle of Honor HAS TO WORK THIS WAY," or "Bulwark HAS TO BE STATTED THIS WAY."

It allowed us to focus more on the narrative of the game and core characters. Totally get that for some folks that isn't their choice, but, it was one of the big decisions we made at the beginning of the creation process.

I would LOVE to hear how your game is going, though, that would be amazing!

I'm not sure I understand how the warlock's Pact of the Ring works. If you create a ten-foot Eldritch Blast cube, do the enemies caught in the area get a save to reduce the damage? If you maintain it with concentration, do they take damage every round? (If so, when? At the start of their turn or when they first move into the area on a turn? On your turn?) Can you move the constructs around? I would have assumed so, since they have a listed Strength modifier, but it doesn't say anywhere how they can move or what action the warlock has to use to do so.

Since the constructs are apparently both damaging energy and solid enough to have HP and Strength, if you create one in an occupied space, what happens?

If you create a combined construct from multiple Eldritch Blasts, how much bigger is it? It says "proportionally larger" but there are multiple ways one could interpret that. Is it proportionally larger by volume, or do you just go the simple route and have two blasts yield...See more

Hi Robert,

Like the hero that inspired it, this subclass is designed to be limited by imagination. Some rules are purposefully vague to allow creative interpretation by both GM and player. It may sometimes be overpowered! At the GM's discretion. And that's okay!

A lot of Supers & Sorcery is very much held together by this rule as trying to make everything that is comic-booky work mechanically would just be far too much and just end up making the book nearly 500 pages long. Which we didn't want.

Rule of cool and cinematic action is what Daylight Publications thrives on!

I can’t leave a review due to dtrpg’s rules on conflict of interest. So I can’t talk about the product itself. However, I had an issue and they did everything to help me get it resolved. They are awesome and are someone I would happily buy from again.

I'll certainly be using this book and it's content, either for a campaign in the setting itself or taking bits and pieces to put into others (coming up with neat things yourself is hard sometimes without a nudge, as we can all understand). However, while the settings and NPCs seem fantastic to me, I do have some very minor gripes/notes of what appears to be mistakes with the original class: The Archon. I can't get too into the nitty-gritty as I've yet to play as it (and considering how beefy it is and how it would be perhaps too strong in settings that aren't as power heavy as this one I may never), but here's just a few things I've noticed.

1. The 5th level feature "Force of Personality" refers to Personality Die, which isn't something that technically is listed prior. While it can be inferred that it could be talking of the Personality Attack die, as other features call them such, they aren't called that here and therefore leads to some confusion.
2. The Principality of Hope's 3rd...See more

Hi there, Archon class designer here. Before I answer your queries, one nitpicky thing. The Archon is balanced against the OGL classes, meaning it's fine to play in a game outside of the Supers and Sorcery universe. In fact, it comes in power-wise as a little less powerful than the Paladin class, and a little less versatile than the Bard.

For your questions:
1.) The 5th level feature refers to Presence die. Were you perhaps referring to another ability?
2.) The Henchling is synonymous with the Underling. You're right in that the Underling stat block is barren (i.e. no actions) but the thought is that the Archon is meant to pick a template when they summon the Echoes. In future Errata, we can make that clearer.
3.) The Archon does not come with starting equipment because it doesn't use equipment in the same sense that other classes use it. This is the Super class. In future errata, we may add in an option to start them out with leather armor or their choice of simple weapon but...See more

Charging almost full price for the PDF when the person is spending $55.00 for the physical book (which only is only 216 pages) is ridiculous. It comes across as greedy and cheap. Most titles here give it for free. The only other people that charge is Onyx Path (Storyteller System) and they only charge $5.00. It sounds like a great setting, but I'm won't be buying it out of principle. I still like holding a physical book in my hand. I like having a PDF for backup. I HATE being gouged. And that's what this feels like.

Hi there Robert, thanks so much for getting back to us with your thoughts, I do appreciate getting to hear from potential customers.

So let us talk brass tacks, shall we? You are right, it is a lot of money. And I have certainly myself balked before at buying things of that price. However, when we put this book together, we were a very very small team, twelve writers (two of whom took on the hat of editor as well) and one layout person. We came together around this idea and then it continued to boom and boom from there. The Kickstarter was meant almost 100% to pay for art, with only a little bit set aside to pay all of our writers back. We sunk months into creating this project, and lots of personal money.

This is our first book as a company, we don't have tons and tons of cash on standby to be able to fund things or pay folks. We had to pay for a lot of things out of pocket to get the game rolling. But if you take a look through the preview of the PDF, you will see that our team did...See more

Howdy there Yann, so unfortunately we cannot demand that people leave reviews. We can ask folks to leave them when they have a spare moment, but not force them to write them. So hopefully for now, the preview we provide can shed some insight into your purchasing choice, and reviews will come as they can.

How easily can this be used for a more generic, modern day superhero setting?

Hey Chris, this could easily be adapted if you wanted to rework the mechanics. And you can 100% do that with S&S - some minor lore tweaks you would be set!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
