Advanced Labyrinth Lord (Dragon Cover)

Selected Option:

Labyrinth Lord doesn't waste precious game time.

We're older now. It's hard enough setting aside time to game.

Then you have to wrangle all your players together at the same time.

The last thing you want is your hard-fought game time wasted.

Combats in Labyrinth Lord are resolved quickly. Running adventures isn't bogged down with bloated monster stats and overcomplicated combats.

Get right into the fun stuff, squeezing the most adventure out of your time.

Play the game on your own terms. Most of us started out with the basic game, working in advanced elements without even realizing basic and advanced were supposed to be two different games. We all might have created our own Frankenstein's monster of rules in slightly different ways, but Labyrinth Lord lets you play the game the way you want it.

If you want to keep basic classes, you can, and play them right along with the advanced classes. Or just use the advanced options. Pick and choose what you want to place in your game on your own terms.

Play the game like you remember it. Feel the adventure like you remember it.

That's why I want to share Labyrinth Lord with you.

COMPLETE AT LAST!

Basic and Advanced

Finally the basic and advanced game rules are in one volume!

This book combines the material originally presented in the Labyrinth Lord core rules and in the Advanced Edition Companion. Play advanced and basic characters in the same group, or choose to play one or the other.

Enter a world filled with labyrinths, magic, and monsters! Choose a basic race-class, advanced class, or even multiclass to combine the two! All of the basic and advanced options are within reach.

Labyrinth Lord is the Rosetta Stone of old-school fantasy rules.

It is easy to use basic and advanced game adventures from other publishers with these rules.

In this book you will find...

  • A complete guide to basic and advanced characters
  • All core basic and advanced monsters
  • Basic and advanced spells
  • The full repertoire of basic and advanced magic items
  • Optional rules to make your game even more advanced

Welcome back to old-school gameplay.

**Note that the PDF includes both the Dragon cover and Orcus Cover images.

I understand the first print didn't have an index. Has an index been included since?

It is the rule system that has everything one would need to run a B/X Advanced Legacy game the way people used to run stuff back in the 80s when it was more fun. Dan did a great job putting all of this together.

In a little less than 10 years the OSR will be 20 years old. Time to start thinking about what should go in the anniversary edition.
A few suggestions:
1) A single class Bard class
2)Backstab ability of the Thief that scales with levels
3)Some wrestling rules inspired by the Unearthed Arcana of 1e.
4) A few more rules or details about planar adventuring

Oh, and give Magic-users the ability to use quarterstaff in combat (as well as clubs and slings, maybe)

Since it is 1E, maybe add cavalier and barbarian as well as acrobat option for thief.

Personally I'd like to see all the classes scaled for 20 levels.

Well pleased with my purchase of this Pumpkin Spice edition.
Love the book was gutted I missed on last years.
So made sure I got this years.
I've seen some folks complaining about a lack of index.
To me the book is an index.
Some great illustrations definitely worth it.

Hey Dan, I picked this up vs getting it in free edition to support work on this sort of thing. I did so on sale, but hey - it's not like I have had time to play (old 70s player with family) but like I said - I like seeing this stuff.

I preferred the Orcus but it wasn't on sale. Then when went to downloads, I see it doesn't have ANY cover at all. Instead we get jpegs for the front and back Dragon cover and ORCUS one as well.

I gotta ask, what am I supposed to DO with that? I'd much prefer to see the cover on my books in my tablet libraries. I have no PDF editing skills

Is this a mistake or ? Can't I get a link to a GOOD one somewhere? (legit I mean - like from you if I send proof of purchase?)

I would also appreciate if this were changed/fixed ... please.

I can't justify paying over £35 for a set of rules I already have, especially as none of the errata has been fixed in this new offering. At least I think that's the state of things.

I was considering it though because the quite brilliant setting 'The Chronicles of Amherth' and the 'The Duchy of Valnwall' setting, found within Amherth, uses both LL and AEC. However, until Goblinoid Games fix the known issues, I have to give this a pass.

It is a pity because Labyrinth Lord is an otherwise solid retro-clone of B/X.

Please fix the full-size preview. It's still broken, more than a month after publication.

Oh, I just discovered the preview works on the Orcus cover version. It's virtually the same book with a different cover. Just view that instead.

The combined book is great! I've been looking forward to it for some time now. I'm a grognard and prefer the old school rules, it fully captures the original flavor of the game. I love the classic feeling over the newer "reformulated" editions that are out there. The classic black and white art is really nice as well and fits perfectly. Nice solid rules and a nice solid book. Well worth the money spent.

Is this really a 50-dollar black and white book of regurgitated and reformulated 40-year-old rules or is there a mistake in the pricing?

The price boggles my mind too. I can buy thicker, full color, hardcover rulebooks for $50.

Great to have everything in one volume! Definitely our group's game of choice going forward. The book looks good and is generally easy to use. My one criticism is that I'd prefer the character attack matrices and saving throw tables right in the character creation section rather than towards the end of the pleyer's section of the book. But it has a good monster section, magic items and plenty of advice, tips, and options. So if you want a fully contained game that is compatible with original Basic and Advanced D&D as well as most other retro games, this is totally worth picking up. Why buy 3 or more books when you can have everything in one? It comes in different covers too.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
