GOLEMS: Genesys Organizations, Legions, and Enterprises Management System

GOLEMS, the Genesys Organizations, Legions, and Enterprises Management System, enables game masters to simulate the goings on of factions behind the scenes of their campaigns. If you have ever had trouble figuring out what kind of intrigue those background megacorporations are getting up to while your PCs run around pulling gigs for them, how your royal houses scheme and plot against each other, or the ebb and flow of the gangs roving your post-apocalyptic streets, then GOLEMS may be exactly what you need.

GOLEMS is an engine driven by an "Org Turn" that occurs in between standard gameplay sessions. Each organization (“org”) is represented by a small block of statistical and flavor information, which are used to drive interactions between the orgs and with the players over the course of a handful of phases. Each Org Turn follows a simple pattern of determining resources, selecting actions, executing actions, and ultimately culminating in a series of robust story hook prompts that direct the GM in fleshing out the next gameplay session.

GOLEMS is entrenched in Genesys’ narrative dice mechanics and is intentionally structured to drive development of interesting NPCs with whom your PCs can interact. Orgs spy, attack, cooperate, and antagonize each other. They advance and expand, recruit NPCs to represent them (to the world and to the PCs), and acquire assets and other tools. Beyond the GOLEMS framework, this resource provides a set of living tables which will continue to be updated to ensure that each org is able to be deeply and thematically customized to whatever mission it may have.

V2 UPDATE

Version 2 of GOLEMS reworks aspects of the core system, adds dozens of new assets, adjusts the layout of the content for a more fluid reader experience, and ADDS PLAYER ORGS! With this update, GOLEMS provides the most thorough and robust framework for managing factions and organizations in Genesys yet!

Agent rules have also now consolidated around power levels as described in the EPG. It is more important than ever to consider the character of your orgs’ agents (Me and Steve Talk RPGs has a fantastic episode on characterizing NPCs that I strongly recommend listening to when considering new agents: https://www.podbean.com/ew/pb-nfxz9-10da917).

Assets are now limited by tier (though these limits can be adjusted with, you got it, other assets), making acquiring and holding assets a more strategic decision as orgs advance. Numerous new assets have been added across all thresholds.

Layout of the document has been substantially reworked and it has been thoroughly bookmarked to make it easy to easy to read through the first time and return to as needed in the future.

PC Orgs provide a way to engage your PCs more fully into the org dynamics. PC Orgs can use PCs just like agents for purposes of org actions (thus giving your PCs important missions to go on during core session gameplay), but also provide your PCs with a rolled passive income, valuable way to spend currency they get by advancing the org, access to agents that can be customized and sent on missions for the PCs, and more.

Supplemental Materials now include an open license and template files with examples for making GOLEMS Adventure Seed Packets (GASPs) and releasing them however you want. A spreadsheet format document of all the assets and simplified org blocks (excel-based) is also included for those who value function over form.

Finally, this marks all Big Karki Products being Pay What You Want! As of this release, the Eyeland Adventures GASP switches to PWYW pricing, and GOLEMS will permanently remain at PWYW (though the suggested price is going to be notched up slightly). I hope, and expect, to make at least a few more GASPs for the other official settings beyond Secrets of the Crucible. Moreover, I really hope others take up the open content agreement and release GASPs on their own as I truly believe they’re the most useful kind of adventuring content you can give to GMs.

TODO: There is still one more item I’d really like to release eventually before I feel like GOLEMS is “content complete”—asset cards! I have some initial work done, but it is apparent it will take me a good bit to fully wrap this item up. However, eventually I plan to release an additional supplemental file and AFP template of all assets in playing card format that can be printed and handed out to/stored with org sheets for physical play! The hope is to add art to each card so GOLEMS feels like the high quality product I want it to be.

It's a little complicated, but it does what it says on the tin. GOLEMS is going to scratch the itch of every player who wants to micromanage their organization. If you don't have one of those players in your group, this document might be a li [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
